Florida Institute of Technology

Florida Institute of Technology

The Florida Institute of Technology held their Giving Tuesday event just yesterday morning, December 3, and the school’s initial goal of having 500 donors was completely destroyed by the generous donations from a staggering amount of 1,499 alumni across the world. Finishing at 5 in the afternoon, the result of the total money received left Adam Lowenstein, the school’s news bureau chief, astonished by the sheer success of the event.

The purpose of Giving Tuesday was to encourage the idea of sharing and giving that involved the school’s graduated students, whom of which are scattered in 63 countries around the world. In essence, the funds raised in the event were sent to help Florida Institute of Technolgy’s five schools: College of Aeronautics, College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Psychology and Liberal Arts and College of Science.

This is, amazingly, the first time the school has included itself in the country’s day of contribution and it has done an impressive job on doing just that. As quoted by Florida Tech President Anthony Catanese, the ambassadors of the school know that “the shared success will ensure a bright future” for their university.

Florida College System: Four State Colleges Recognized For State-of-the-Art Academic Programs

0
Seminole State College

Last month, four state colleges in Florida have received awards from Florida College System Chancellor Madeline Pumariega through the Chancellor’s Best Practice Awards. Chipola College, Lake-Sumter State College, Seminole State College of Florida, and Florida State College at Jacksonville have all been recognized for bringing forth and sharing exceptional programs with all institutions in the Florida College System.

Out of the twenty-three FCS schools that submitted 33 best practice programs, only these four colleges were decided, through the revisions made by the Division of Florida Colleges, to be the very best of all.

The programs that made each school recognized have proven to sustain educational practices for students over periods of time and improve the costs for colleges to have them.

Chipola College was recognized for creating an impressive program, Creating a Pathway to Graduation through Academic Support, that gives on-demand tutoring to discourage students from dropping out of school.

Lake-Sumter State College was awarded for its RISE Math Program, a program in regards for high school students that collaborated with the Sumter School District to develop a free summer math and college-exposure program called the RISE Summer Math Academy.

Seminole State College of Florida was awarded for its Capstone Project, which requires college seniors to submit a thesis and research work, which is then provided to a business or sponsor with a  professional 30-minute presentation to a selected audience. The Capstone Project’s informational technology coursework placement for students generally leads to employment after their graduation.

Florida State College at Jacksonville was recognized for its iNoVATE program that collaborates with many state colleges to help high school students by putting them through extensively intensive training, which then helps familiarize themselves  with intricate technology.

Chancellor Pumariega gave much praise to these schools as she described her regards in the following quotes. “I applaud our colleges for their commitment to excellence and innovation in our system,” and “It is this commitment that keeps the Florida College System in the forefront as the national leader in higher education.”

The ceremony for awarding these schools was held in Lake Buena Vista on the 11th of November.
